Online tutoring is offered in all core content areas (math, science, literacy, and history) for students with learning differences
in grades 6 through 12.
In addition, post-secondary tutoring is offered in writing, math, and science. Instructional strategies are tailored to meet each student’s learning goals and specific academic challenges.
For students enrolled in special education programs at the middle and high school levels, several steps are necessary to address a myriad of academic needs and to maximize success. Each student must first undergo a comprehensive evaluation by Modern Academics prior to scheduling tutoring sessions. This consists of discussions with the student and his or her guardians, a review of relevant student information (e.g., school transcripts, neuropsychological reports, etc.) and if necessary, consultation with educators and other professionals familiar with the student’s challenges. Following the collection and review of data, an individualized learning plan is formulated based on the student’s specific educational needs.
By gathering and carefully reviewing a variety of student data, individual learning preferences, strengths, and styles are determined. From this information, a uniquely tailored individualized learning plan is designed.
A typical intake may include the following:
Initial phone interview with parents to identify strengths and challenges
Collection and review of student data
(e.g., school transcripts, teacher reports, 504 Plans and IEPs, etc.)Review of neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessments
Review of physicians’ evaluations
In-home meeting with student and guardians
Development of an individualized learning plan
Once the plan is agreed upon, instructional sessions are scheduled. Frequent communication regarding the student’s progress is maintained in order to maximize academic success.
Virtual tutoring using real-time, digital whiteboard technology is available to students in the continental United States.
